"summary": "staging: rtl8723bs: fix stack buffer overflow in OnAssocReq IE parsing",
"details": "In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nstaging: rtl8723bs: fix stack buffer overflow in OnAssocReq IE parsing\n\nThe Supported Rates IE length from an incoming Association Request frame\nwas used directly as the memcpy() length when copying into a fixed-size\n16-byte stack buffer (supportRate). A malicious station can advertise an\nIE length larger than 16 bytes, causing a stack buffer overflow.\n\nClamp ie_len to the buffer size before copying the Supported Rates IE,\nand correct the bounds check when merging Extended Supported Rates to\nprevent a second potential overflow.\n\nThis prevents kernel stack corruption triggered by malformed association\nrequests.",

"scenario": "AV:A - A nearby station can send a crafted 802.11 Association or Reassociation Request through the rtl8723bs AP receive path; dependence on Wi-Fi radio range and channel makes this Adjacent.\nAC:L - The attacker controls the authentication exchange and malformed IE contents, with no race or uncontrollable condition required. Oversized copies deterministically corrupt the stack or trigger hardening checks.\nPR:N - Open System authentication creates the required station state without credentials. The overflow occurs before WPA/RSN credential proof or the four-way handshake.\nUI:N - Once the device is operating as an access point, receiving the malicious frames requires no victim action.\nS:U - The vulnerable driver and the compromised kernel resources belong to the same operating-system security authority.\nC:H - The attacker-controlled overwrite can reach saved return state, enabling control-flow hijacking and arbitrary kernel-memory disclosure in a successful exploit.\nI:H - The copies can write hundreds of attacker-controlled bytes beyond the stack array and reach return state, supporting kernel code execution and arbitrary modification.\nA:H - The overflow corrupts the stack canary or triggers fortify checks, causing a kernel panic or fatal fault, and an attacker can repeat it after recovery."
