AV:A - hns_roce is a RoCE HCA, and the printing path is driven by error completions that a peer on the same RDMA/Ethernet fabric can generate against kernel ULP CQs (NFS/RDMA server, SMB Direct, nvmet-rdma, SMC-R) polled via `__ib_process_cq()` → `hns_roce_v2_poll_cq()`. RoCE is confined to a lossless L2/L3 datacenter segment rather than the open Internet, so the attacker must be on the adjacent fabric.
AC:L - The attacker fully controls the trigger — repeatedly opening RDMA connections or issuing requests with invalid rkeys deterministically produces non-flush error CQEs, each of which emits an unratelimited KERN_ERR line plus a hex dump. No memory-layout or timing condition outside the attacker's control is involved.
PR:N - RDMA target services (NFS/RDMA, SMB Direct, nvmet-rdma, SMC-R) accept connections from any peer on the fabric, and connection-setup/teardown transport errors occur before any application-level authentication. The alternative local path only needs an unprivileged user with the world-accessible /dev/infiniband/uverbs* device.
UI:N - The flood is produced entirely by attacker-initiated RDMA traffic (or attacker-issued poll_cq calls); no action by any local user or administrator is needed.
S:U - The impact — kernel log flooding, lockup/panic, and log disclosure — stays within the kernel's own security authority on the affected host; no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.
C:L - The KERN_ERR `print_hex_dump()` of the raw CQE exposes connection metadata — rkey/immediate data, local and remote QPN, source MAC, VLAN — to the console and dmesg, where unprivileged local readers see it when dmesg_restrict is off. The leak is real but bounded to 32/64 bytes of completion data, not arbitrary kernel memory.
I:N - No memory corruption or data modification occurs; the change only alters log verbosity and rate.
A:H - The commit states outright that "too much print may lead to a panic in kernel"; the unratelimited printk plus per-CQE hex dump executes under `spin_lock_irqsave(&hr_cq->lock)`, so a burst of error completions keeps a CPU with interrupts disabled writing to a slow console, producing soft/hard-lockup watchdog panics and console/log saturation."
