"scenario": "AV:N - ksmbd is the in-kernel SMB server listening on TCP/445; the malformed offset fields are attacker-supplied bytes in an SMB2 PDU sent over the network. No local access is needed.\nAC:L - The attacker simply sets a buffer-offset field (PathOffset, InputBufferOffset, BufferOffset, FileNameOffset, InputOffset) below the struct's Buffer offset in a single crafted request; the divergence between the validated window and the read window is deterministic, with no race or unknown state involved.\nPR:L - All affected commands pass through smb2_check_user_session(), which requires ksmbd_conn_good() and a valid session, so a completed SMB2 session setup (any low-privileged share user, or a mapped guest) is needed; the remaining commands additionally need a tree connect. This matches the sibling fix CVE-2024-26954.\nUI:N - The server processes the crafted SMB2 request automatically in its kworker; no action by any local user or administrator is required.\nS:U - The out-of-bounds access and its consequences stay within the kernel's own security authority; no VM, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.\nC:H - This is an out-of-bounds read of adjacent kernel heap memory of up to the fixed-header size (~120 bytes) per request, repeatable with attacker-controlled heap grooming, and the leaked bytes are reflected back to the client through FSCTL_PIPE_TRANSCEIVE responses, tree-connect/query-directory name handling and EA replies, yielding kernel memory disclosure.\nI:L - SMB2_SET_INFO and FSCTL handlers consume the out-of-bounds bytes as file metadata \u2014 FILE_END_OF_FILE_INFORMATION truncation lengths, rename/link names, extended attributes, security descriptors and FSCTL_SET_ZERO_DATA ranges \u2014 so file data and permissions are modified, but the attacker does not fully control the resulting values.\nA:H - Reading past the kvmalloc()'d request buffer triggers a KASAN slab-out-of-bounds BUG or a fault on a vmalloc guard page, oopsing the ksmbd kworker and killing the server; the attacker can repeat it at will from the network."
