"summary": "ksmbd: validate request buffer size in smb2_allocate_rsp_buf()",
"details": "In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nksmbd: validate request buffer size in smb2_allocate_rsp_buf()\n\nThe response buffer should be allocated in smb2_allocate_rsp_buf\nbefore validating request. But the fields in payload as well as smb2 header\nis used in smb2_allocate_rsp_buf(). This patch add simple buffer size\nvalidation to avoid potencial out-of-bounds in request buffer.",

"scenario": "AV:N - The vulnerable code is in ksmbd, the in-kernel SMB server processing requests received on TCP port 445; the OOB read is driven entirely by fields in a remotely supplied SMB2 packet, making it remotely reachable over the network.\nAC:L - A single crafted SMB2 QUERY_INFO / transform request deterministically triggers the field read on an undersized buffer, with no race or unpredictable precondition the attacker cannot control.\nPR:N - In the affected code smb2_allocate_rsp_buf() runs before init_rsp_hdr and before check_user_session, and in the original ordering before decryption/session lookup, so a crafted (transform) request reaches the OOB read pre-authentication\u2014consistent with the paired CVE-2024-26980.\nUI:N - The attacker sends the malformed request directly to the server; no action by any local user or victim is required.\nS:U - The out-of-bounds read stays within the kernel's own memory and security authority; no VM, hypervisor, IOMMU, or sandbox boundary is crossed.\nC:L - The read goes out of bounds by a couple of bytes (InfoType/FileInfoClass) of adjacent slab memory; it is strictly bounded to a few bytes and feeds only an internal size decision, so limited rather than arbitrary disclosure.\nI:N - The defect is purely an out-of-bounds read used to size the response buffer; there is no out-of-bounds write, freed-object reuse, or type confusion, so no data can be modified.\nA:H - Reading past a small slab allocation into a redzone or unmapped region produces a KASAN-detected slab-out-of-bounds and can oops/panic the kernel, and the request can be repeated at will, yielding a remote denial of service."
