AV:L - The bug is in ntfs3 on-disk EA parsing reached via the listxattr syscall (ntfs_listxattr → ntfs_list_ea) on a mounted NTFS volume; malicious ATTR_EA data comes from the filesystem image, not from network protocol input.
AC:L - A crafted NTFS image with a zero name_len EA reliably triggers the out-of-bounds read on listxattr with no race or other conditions outside the attacker’s control.
PR:L - vfs_listxattr does not require MAY_READ—only path traversal and LSM listxattr hooks—so an unprivileged local user who can reach a file on a mounted NTFS volume can invoke the vulnerable path.
UI:N - Once an NTFS volume is mounted (common for removable/dual-boot/shared storage), the attacker triggers the bug solely by calling listxattr; no further victim interaction is required.
S:U - Impact is confined to the local kernel’s memory/availability authority; this is standard kernel memory-safety impact with no VM, IOMMU, or other security-authority boundary crossed.
C:H - The slab OOB read in ntfs_list_ea can read past the kmalloc’d EA buffer and, on continued iteration, memcpy attacker-influenced lengths of adjacent slab memory into the listxattr buffer that is copied to userspace.
I:N - The defect is an out-of-bounds read only; memcpy destinations are the legitimate list buffer under a size check, with no OOB write or other kernel integrity corruption primitive.
A:H - The OOB access causes KASAN reports and can oops/panic the kernel when invalid EA iteration touches unmapped or poisoned slab memory, enabling denial of service."
