"summary": "net: fix possible store tearing in neigh_periodic_work()",
"details": "In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nnet: fix possible store tearing in neigh_periodic_work()\n\nWhile looking at a related syzbot report involving neigh_periodic_work(),\nI found that I forgot to add an annotation when deleting an\nRCU protected item from a list.\n\nReaders use rcu_deference(*np), we need to use either\nrcu_assign_pointer() or WRITE_ONCE() on writer side\nto prevent store tearing.\n\nI use rcu_assign_pointer() to have lockdep support,\nthis was the choice made in neigh_flush_dev().",

"scenario": "AV:A - The vulnerable unmarked store runs in neigh_periodic_work() while lockless RCU readers in ___neigh_lookup_noref() walk the same hash chains during ARP/NDISC and L2 resolution. An adjacent LAN/WiFi attacker can populate stale neighbour entries via ARP/ND and concurrently drive lookups, which is the highest reasonable reachability for this subsystem.\nAC:L - The attacker controls the reader side with continuous adjacent traffic and can force GC-eligible entries by filling the neighbour table past gc_thresh1 and letting entries go stale, so both sides of the race are attacker-driven rather than a blind wait for an uncontrolled condition.\nPR:N - ARP/NDISC packet processing and subsequent neighbour lookups require no authentication or local account on the victim; an unauthenticated adjacent peer can create entries and trigger concurrent RCU readers.\nUI:N - Exploitation requires only attacker-sent frames and the kernel's periodic GC workqueue; no victim user action such as mounting a filesystem or opening a file is needed.\nS:U - Impact is confined to kernel memory and availability within the same host security authority; this is ordinary in-kernel corruption/DoS, not a VM escape, IOMMU bypass, or sandbox boundary cross.\nC:H - Store tearing on an RCU-protected neighbour next pointer can expose readers to a corrupted pointer while walking the hash chain, and under the highest-severity reading that memory corruption enables use of unintended kernel objects and arbitrary disclosure primitives.\nI:H - The same corrupted-pointer walk is memory corruption on a core networking structure; following a torn next pointer can be leveraged for unintended writes or control-flow hijack rather than being limited to a benign crash.\nA:H - A torn or otherwise invalid neighbour pointer dereferenced on the packet/lookup fast path causes kernel oops/panic or hangs in networking, which is a high availability impact."
